BIFHSGO January Meeting + News

Saturday 9 January has presentations from two of the society's leading members.

The main presentation, following announcements at 10 am, is They Got Their Man — presented by Dave Cross. Dave is a descendant of the Malone family near Kingston and will talk about William Haynes Malone, who lived in Chicago during the 1920s and 1930s where he was mayor of Park Ridge, and candidate for governor of Illinois, and later a resident in a federal prison.

The 9:00 a.m. 30 minute educational talk is Tips for Making The Most of Your UK Family Research Trip presented by Dena Palamedes.

Between the two talks is a half hour meet and greet, the opportunity to browse display tables. Also I recently learned the used book store operated by Friends of the Ottawa Public Library, just inside the main entrance at Ben Franklin Place, opens early to accommodate browsers during the break and, space permitting, will try and feature books relevant to the meeting topic, or family history in general. Sales of donated books, with volunteer staff, benefit the library operation.

As usual the meeting is open to members and visitors alike. Free admission and parking. The Chamber, Ben Franklin Place, 101 Centrepointe Drive, Ottawa. More information about this meeting is available at http://bifhsgo.ca/eventListings.php?nm=127

NOTE: The dates for the BIFHSGO conference have now been confirmed as September 9 to 11.

There should be lots of MY old books there, considering the number I gave away!!! I think it was about 34 boxes, almost all on history. Cheers, BT
