Samuel Holland’s map of Prince Edward Island

In 1764-65, surveyor Samuel Holland, on orders from the British Crown, created the first truly modern, accurate map of Prince Edward Island, dividing it into townships and counties, and designating its county capitals, including the Provincial capital Charlottetown.
Samuel Holland’s 1765 Map and the Making of Prince Edward Island’ is an exhibit at The Confederation Centre of the Arts in Charlottetown until January 2016 with the map making a journey back to the island province.
Find out more about the exhibit at www.samuelholland250.ca/home and read more about the conservation of the map and its transport to PEI in this TNA blog post. That's a look behind the scenes -- always of interest.
